Golf Lesson- The Quest For A Perfect Golf Shot

Anyone that follows this blog is on a quest for the perfect golf shot. I have tried over the past several months to put you on a path for success. I think at this point that you all will agree the the perfect golf shot will have the following:

1. We attempt to swing the club head on a path straight through the ball toward the target

2. The club face must be square to the target line at impact.

3. The club must be swung with the maximum speed while still achieving 1. & 2.

4. Hit the golf ball squarely on the center of the club face.

Everything I have taught you so far should result in a golf shot hit squarely with maximum swing speed on a path that launches the ball straight at the target. Nobody hits a perfect golf shot every time. Even the best players in the world hit poor golf shots. In an average touring pro’s round of, let’s say 70 or so shots with 40 or so golf shots not being putts, they will only admit to 2 or 3 perfect shots. The idea in the quest for the perfect golf shot is to make sure you start from a position that allows a perfect shot.

If your set up is bad, your shoulders not on a line parallel to your target line you have no chance to hit a perfect golf shot. If you do not take the time to aim the club before completing your set up you have no chance to hit a perfect shot. If your posture at address is poor, again no chance. If you have not taken the time to work on your grip, making sure that the way you grip the club delivers the club head back to the ball with a square club face you have no chance at a perfect shot. I could go on and on but I hope you have the idea now.

It is fruitless and frustrating to play golf if you don’t take the time to master basic fundamentals. As a teacher, over the years I have had a great number of students that took lessons once a week but never practiced between sessions. They never mastered the basics and never improved to their potential.

The moral of this story is that I am sure like most golfers, you are on the quest for the perfect golf shot. Make sure you have done everything to put yourself in a position to do so. If things are not going well in your golf game go back to basics and make sure you are in a position to make a good swing.
