About

Welcome to oldproblog.com.  My name is Doug Dahle and I am the old pro.

I have been in the golf business most of my life.  I was a PGA member in Illinois for 10 years where I developed a love for teaching the game.  When, in 1972 I was hired by Itasca Country Club, I was the youngest head golf professional ever at a Chicago District Golf Course.  While at Itasca I became curious about the effect of golf equipment had on the golf swing.  In giving lessons, it can became frustrating for the student as well as the teacher, if poorly fitted equipment does not allow the student to be in a position to maximize their potential.  After 4 years at Itasca Country Club, I left and started a custom club a repair business in Elk Grove Village, Illinois.  It was here that I was able to combine knowledge of equipment with knowledge of the golf swing to help golfers reach their full potential.  Shortly after I left the Club I was recruited by the John Jacobs golf schools.  I was able to spend a week with Mr. Jacobs in Tuscon and it was his inspiration of ball flight teaching that has heavily influenced my teaching philosophy.

In 1983, I designed the third metalwood ever made for ProDyn.  Trying to improve on the then available technology 40 touring pros on the mens and womens tours used ProDyn metalwoods.

In 1999, I began to experience numbness in my legs and feet and some pretty severe balance problems.  After opinions from 4 different neurosurgeons and many MRI,s and other ungodly tests, I was referred to Dr Mark Cwikla of Irving, Texas.  He ordered a mylogram ( a very unpleasant test) and found what other surgeons had missed.  I had a 9″ tumor on my spinal cord that was causing the symptoms.  Surgery  was immediately scheduled and the tumor successfully removed. Unfortunately the nerve damage had already been done and I have never regained the full feeling in my legs or feet and I still could not keep my balance.  I can’t stand or sit for long periods and need to walk with a cane to keep my balance.  So much for teaching or playing golf.

My brothers Craig and Mark and their wives  came to Dallas for Thanksgiving and asked if I would ride along while they played golf.  I accompanied them and more or less gave Lisa (my sister-in-law) a playing lesson.  They encouraged me to start teaching again.  I thought it would be out of the question given my physical limitations until I came up with the idea of starting this Blog.

I hope that what I write will help many of you but I want to emphasize that this blog will not replace individual instruction from your capable PGA professional.  It is designed to help you understand through the flight of the ball what must be done to improve your score.
